The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion,

who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement,

who can tolerate not knowing… not healing, not curing…

that is a friend who cares.

– Henri Nouwen

The five stages – denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance –  are a part of the framework that makes up our learning to live with the one we lost. They are tools to help us frame and identify what we may be feeling. But they are not stops on some linear timeline in grief. – Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

The Compassionate Friends of Canada is a network of support groups from across Canada, offering grief and trauma support following the death of a child, no matter the age or cause.

If you live in or around Hamilton, we can offer a monthly meeting of support and understanding.

We cannot fix the pain of losing a child but we can help you to understand and navigate this life changing experience. We recognize that it may be difficult, we invite you to attend a support meeting. Although each person’s journey is different, you’ll be able to meet with other parents who have similarly lost a child.

While we are aware that attending that first meeting may seem overwhelming, we encourage you to join us. There are no costs, there are no expectations. You are not required to speak if you do not feel comfortable in doing so.

If you cannot attend a meeting and would rather try support through videoconference, please visit The Compassionate Friends Canada website for more information.

If you’d like to attend a meeting, visit the Meetings page for more information. Additional grief support resources can be found on our Resources page. If you’d like to reach out to us, you can do so by visiting the Contact page.
